The Indians, leading all of class A in scoring offense with 44
points per game, came within a safety of their average spoiling the Calhoun County homecoming this past Friday night
blanking the Cougars 42-0. Leading the way for the Indians again, sophomore tailback Chris Brown was 4 yards shy
of a second straight 200 yard rushing performance and raised his touchdown total for the year to 10 by adding 3 against the
Cougars. Antwan Buggs threw only 4 passes, but made the most of his attempts with two touchdown passes.
Barren Rambo added a touchdown out to round out the Indian scoring. Jeffery Croom went 4 of 6 on
PAT attempts. Give the Cougars credit, they held the Indians offense scoreless the first quarter with the Indians defense posting
a safety when Dezmond Wright led a host of Indian defenders in a tackle in the end zone of the Cougar running back.
The Indian offense put it in gear in the 2nd quarter scoring 3 times with 2 of them coming through the air. Buggs threw
his pair of TD's to Dee Virgin for a 45 yard score and a 27 yarder to Howard Stephens who made a spectacular catch.
Halftime featured the Calhoun County Homecoming ceremony, but
the Green Machine was on hand from the stands energizing the crowd and pumping up the players. The SCHS vasity
cheerleaders made their presence known as well keeping the Indian fans amped up throughout the game. Led by
senior captain Savannah Downing and junior co-captain Holley Zachery, these young ladies rallied behind the Indians from opening
kick to the final play. Coaches Crystal Milner and Felicia Odom were very proud of the fiery spirit displayed by
all of the girls. The cheerleaders include senior Octavia Williams, juniors Kelly Dekle, Suzette Hartzog, Shanice Shuler,
sophomores Drew Atkinson, Haley Ethridge, Jontae Fielder, Dianna Faircloth, Ayante Murphy, Annie Williams, and freshmen Halie
Riley and Sara Robinson.
The Cougars received the 2nd half kickoff only to punt, but their
second possesion of the half they moved deep into Indian territory. Owen Parks jumped the pass route of the Cougar
receiver and picked off Calhoun County quarterback Freddie King's fade pass in the end zone turning the ball over to the Indians.
Chris Brown scored the second of his three TD's from 10 yards out which put the Indians up 28-0 heading into the final
period of the contest. Two more Seminole County touchdowns in the 4th quarter were added before Calhoun County threatened
again late in the game. Another Indian end zone interception, this one by team interception leading senior Rickelle
Wilson, preserved the shutout. At this point, the JV team had entered the game for the Indian up and comers another
chance to gain game time experience. This moves the Indian record to 5-1 (1-0) and the Cougars fall to 1-5 (0-1).
The victory puts the Indians in a first place tie on the west side of the region with arch rival Miller County 5-1 (1-0) as
they downed the Terrell County Greenwave 4-2 (0-1) with a 7-0 win in a defensive struggle in Colquitt. The Indians face
these two teams in their next two contests, both at Seminole Stadium. Up first will be the Greenwave, with their backs
to the wall in the sub-region race will surely be looking to rebound from their loss. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30
in Donalsonville with homecoming festivities scheduled to begin at 7:00. Also there will be a special treat for all
in attendance as the SCHS alumni band will participate in pre-game as well as take the field during the halftime intermission.
Don't miss this memorable event and come out and support our Indians as they continue their march towards bringing the region
championship to Seminole County. In other action, top ten team Chattahoochee County was roasted by their region rival
Greenville 33-13, Clinch County manhandled Bacon County 33-6, Lanier County upended winless Atkinson County 41-6, and Wilkinson
County blasted Randolph-Clay 39-8 leaving the Red Devils still seeking their first win of the year.
