Indians wrap up first half @ 4-1

The Indians raided Morris Johnson Stadium this past Friday night to tackle the Bacon County Red Raiders in the final region crossover game.  From the opening kick, the Indians put on a rushing clinic with Chris Brown as the main instructor.  Chris accumulated 227 rushing yards in 18 attempts while scoring 2 touchdowns in the process.  This brings the sophomore's rushing total to over 500 yards and 7 TD's to date for the year.  The Indian defense was on their game as well, holding the Red Raider offense to just 58 yards TOTAL offense.  The Indians received the opening kickoff for the first time this year and put together a 74 yard drive in just 4 plays.  Three rushes by Brown were capped off by Owen Parks firing a 34 yard TD strike to Howard Stephens and after a successful PAT by Jeffery Croom, the visitors were on top 7-0.  The Indian defense stood tall on their first test but after the Raiders punted the ball to the Indians, we put it on the ground and set up the hosts with terrific field position.  The Raider offense took advantage and pushed the ball into the end zone with Tay Reynolds taking it in from 16 yards out.  The PAT failed and the Indians clung to a one point lead.  Owen Parks capped off a 66 yard drive with a 2 yard QB sneak to take the score to 13-6 at the end of the 1st quarter.  The second quarter featured scores from Barren Rambo, who also added a 2 point conversion run, and the first of Chris Brown's two scores, this one from 17 yards out.  This brought the contest to the halftime intermission with the Indians holding a 27-6 lead.
The Green Machine Marching Indians then entered the field and put on yet another outstanding show.  Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin' featured Alana Hall and assistant drum major Kalob Yanez playing a solo that garnered a standing ovation.  Flaming batons were featured in the following medley of hits from the 80's.  The attention then turned to the band front's danceline with their tribute to Michael Jackson putting on the moves from his huge hit 'Thriller'.  Drum major C. J. Jackson even got into the groove with his single white glove and slick moves playing to the crowd.  The Green Machine marched off the field to a standing ovation, giving way to the hometown band, the Raider Regiment, who gave a sensational performance as well.
The second half opened with Bacon County receiving the kickoff and promptly going 3 and out punting the ball to the Indians.  The Indians scored twice in the 3rd stanza with Chris Brown capturing his second TD of the night from 45 yards out.  Dee Virgin, from the tailback spot as well, took one in from 20 yards out to wind up the scoring in the 3rd.  With the Indians on top 40-6, the 'mercy rule' was invoked the second week in a row bringing a running clock for the final quarter.  The Indians still had time to manage another score when Tamichael Fedd took the ball to the house from 6 yards out following a Raider fumble.  The Raiders returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards and fell on a successful onside kick attempt, but with little time and a stiff Indian defense were only able to come within 34 of the high scoring Seminole squad.  Final score was SC 46 BC 12.  The Indians racked up 344 rushing yards and 34 through the air while adding up 17 first downs.  The Raiders had merely 58 yards of total offense and gained 6 first downs.  The game brings the Indians to 4-1 while the Raiders fall to 1-4.  In other action, Miller County downed Clinch County in a fumble filled game 7-0 which is the first time since 1991 that Clinch County has been held scoreless in Homerville.  Pelham defeated Calhoun County 14-6 grabbing their first win as did Lanier County by downing Randolph-Clay, Terrell County also moved to 4-1 with their narrow win over Atkinson County 13-7.  Top ten teams to fall this week were Wilcox County, who got whipped by Twiggs County 48-12 and Bowdon who were upset by Darlingon, 23-20.
Next week has the Indians on the road again, this time they will travel to Edison, GA to take on the Calhoun County Cougars in the first sub-region game of the year.
