Indians get first victory

The Seminole County Indians hosted the first of four home games this past Friday night at Seminole Stadium.  Coach Eric Soliday brought his Turner County Rebels to town with both teams looking for their first victory of this young season.  As the sun went the Green Machine honored America with the Star Spangled Banner followed by a moment of silence.  The crowd settled back into their seats as the captains took the field for the coin toss.  Captains Barren Rambo, Chris Brown and Bret Ingram represented the Indians wearing all green uniforms.  The toss was done and the Rebels would receive the ball to open the non-region contest.  Barren Rambo put boot to leather and the game was underway with the Turner offense beginning their initial drive at their own 37 yard line.  The Rebels put together a 10 play drive, moving the ball into Indian territory, before stalling and turning the ball over on downs at the Seminole 25 yard line.  Three plays later, Rambo was on the field once again, this time to punt the ball back to the visitors.  After a short drive attempt, Turner County punted the ball to the Indians setting them back to their own 29 yard line.  With Owen Parks at quarterback, filling in for Antwan Buggs who was held out due to an ankle injury sustained against Wilcox County, the Indians moved quickly down the field.  The 5 play drive spurred by runs of 24 yards by Parks and 29 yards by Tamichael Fedd, was capped off with an 8 yard TD run by Fedd.  The PAT attempt sailed wide left and the Indians were up 6-0 with 1:11 to play in the opening quarter.  The Rebels received the ensuing kickoff and with 5 seconds left in the first quarter, Chris Brown, while tackling the Turner rusher, ripped the ball from his hands giving the Indians possession.  Sides changed with the start of the 2nd quarter and Seminole County having excellent field position starting the drive at midfield, took the ball down to the Rebel 15 yard line before Fedd scored his 2nd of game high 3 touchdowns.  The 2 point conversion was good and the Indians held a solid 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.  The Rebels set up shop at their own 40 yard line to begin the next series of downs.  Turner QB Markevian Teague launched a 41 yard pass to Kevion Yancey putting the Rebels in business deep in Seminole's end of the field.  Adarius Boyles drove the ball into the end zone from 2 yards out to bring the Rebels to within 8 points.  The extra point attempt went wide left and the score remained 14-6 in favor of the home team.  The teams swapped punts and the Indians put together a long 73 yard drive with Barren Rambo punching through from the one yard line to raise the score to 20-6.  A failed 2 point conversion attempt left the Indians with a 14 point lead heading into the locker room for the halftime intermission.
The Turner County Marching Band then took the field giving an entertaining musical and marching display before giving way to the pride of Seminole County, our own Green Machine Marching Band.  Under the field direction of drum major C. J. Jackson, the Green Machine performed a medley of hits from the 1980's era including Van Halen's 'Jump' and a catchy Michael Jackson tune.  The majorettes lit up the field with their flaming baton twirling and the flashy flag corp dazzled the crowd with their routines.  Another standing ovation was received by the Green Machine as they marched off the field to the tune of 'Glory, Glory.'  Dallas Burke, once again, sent his troops out to perform and perform they did, putting a charge into the crowd as the players returned to the field for warmups prior to the 2nd half kickoff.
The Indians were set to receive the second half kickoff and the Rebels kicker dribbled the ball in what appeared to be an onside kick attempt.  The alert eyes and sure hands of Dezmond Wright went into action as he pounced on the ball allowing the Indians to retain possession and with great field position to boot.  The Indians ate up nearly 3 minutes of 2nd half clock before putting the ball on the turf and the Rebel defender was 'johnny on the spot', falling on the ball.  The visiting team looked as if they were headed for a comeback when the ball popped loose and senior linebacker Quayshone Parks alertly scooped it up and scampered 62 yards untouched for an Indian score.  The conversion attempt was unsuccessful and the Indian lead jumped to 26-6 midway through the 3rd period.  The Rebels turned the ball over on downs and with 2:05 left in the 3rd quarter, the Indians drew blood again.  This time it only took one play.  Chris Brown took the Owen Parks pitch to the right side and burst into the open field leaving all the Rebel defenders in a cloud of dust with a 74 yard rushing touchdown.  This time Jeffery Crooms PAT attempt sailed through straight and true building the Indian lead to 33-6.  The Rebels turned the ball over on downs and with time running out, the Indians took possession of the ball again.  This drive ended with Fedd scoring his third TD of the game from 14 yards out at the 8:40 mark in the 4th period.  Another Croom's extra point went through the uprights and the Indians took a commanding 40-6 lead.  Throughout the final quarter, both coaches substituted freely giving game time experience to the younger players.  Turner County put in young Luke Soliday at quarterback who attempted to maintain an aerial attack, but while under severe pressure from the Indian defensive front, he tossed an errant pass right to Kerry Chrispen who promptly set his sights on the goal line.  This 62 yard pass interception for a touchdown extended the lead to 46-6 and after the 2 point conversion, the Indians were up by a score of 48-6.  With the field filled with mainly JV players, Alex Koonce kicked off for the Indians and the Turner receiver scooted around the left edge and took it to the house for a 60 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  The Rebel kicker missed the extra point attempt and the score set at 48-12 which is where it was when the final ticks of the clock finally drained out.  The win lifts the Indians record to 1-1 and the Rebels fall to 0-2.
The Indians piled up a whopping 361 yards of rushing while going 1 for 3 in passing for 24 yards.  They tallied 15 first downs and lost 1 of 3 fumbles.  Penalties were at a minimum for both teams and the Indians had 5 yellow hankies for 48 yards.  The Rebels posted 147 yards on the ground and 91 in the air, going 5 of 25 with one interception.  They gained 13 first downs and lost 2 of their 4 fumbles.  Penalties for Turner County were 2 for 10 yards.
Individual leaders were topped by Tamichael Fedd who gained 143 yards on 17 carries with 3 TD's, Chris Brown also topped the 100 yard mark on 5 rushes for 100 yards and one TD, and Owen Parks carried 8 times for 71 yards.  Defensively, Chris Brown led all tacklers with a monster game, hauling in 11 solo tackles and 3 assists including a fumble recovery.  Rickelle Wilson and Tamichael Fedd pitched in with 6 solos a piece while Wilson, Fedd, Jaquan Johnson, Owen Parks and Dee Virgin all batted away passes.  Johnson grabbed the team's only QB sack of the contest.  Coach Alan Ingram was pleased with his boys' efforts commenting, "Our boys played with good intensity for the better part of the ball game.  There's still lots to work on, but the season is still young."
The Indians go on the road again this week traveling to Lakeland, GA to take on the Lanier County Bulldogs who are coming off a 16-10 loss to the Berrien Rebels of class AA.  Coach Ingram says that although the Dawgs are 0-2, they are not to be overlooked.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 at Roquemore Stadium in Lakeland.  Come out and support your Indians as they are working hard representing Seminole County.  In other region 1 action, Early County topped Miller County 34-6, class AAA Monroe downed Terrell County 40-0, Jones County upended Calhoun County 34-12, Clinch County fell in a close one to Irwin County 14-7, Bacon County was thumped by Wilkinson County 40-2, Atkinson County fell to Brantley County 48-28, and Pelham lost to Mitchell County 27-13.  In north Georgia, Robert Ingram's Riverwood Raiders fell to Blessed Trinity 24-8.
