Elder Ingram grabs first Ingram Bowl victory

Our Seminole County Indians traveled to Sandy Springs, GA this past Friday night to play in Ingram Bowl I.  It was north GA vs south GA, city slickers vs country boys, and it was father vs son.  The scene was set for a rumble in the ATL.  The Riverwood marching band honored our nation with the national anthem and the team captains took the field for the coin toss.  The Indians won the toss and deferred to the second half and beginning the game kicking to the Raiders.  The hosts set up their offense on their own 35 yard line and the Indian defense showed them that they came to play holding them to 2 yards before forcing the Raiders to punt.  It didn't take the Seminole offense to draw first blood, scoring two plays later on a 33 yard TD by sophomore tailback Chris Brown.  Jeffery Crooms first PAT was blocked and the Indians took a 6-0 lead early in the 1st quarter.  The next possession for each team resulted in a lost fumble, then the Raiders fell short as they had to punt.  A short punt gave the Indian offense good field postion, beginning this set of downs at their own 40 yard line.  It took 6 plays to cover 60 yards with Chris Brown scampering the final 7 yards for his second score of the contest.  This time Crooms' extra point was straight and true and upped the score to 13-0 as time ran out in the first quarter.
The second quarter brought the Raider fans out of their seats as their team drove 76 yards for a touchdown with just under 4 minutes gone in the period.  Senior QB Khalil Priddie took the ball in from 14 yards out with kicker Owen Merritt tacking on the extra point, result SCHS 13 Riverwood 7.  The Raiders lined up for the kickoff and sailed it to Chris Brown who was waiting on the Indian 10 yard line.  Brown sprinted to the middle of the field and broke through the Raider defenses and cruised untouched for a 90 yard TD return.  Crooms kick again split the uprights and the Indians extended their lead back to 13 points, 20-7.  The Riverwood offense took the ball over at their own 21 yard line after the kickoff and 3 plays later hit paydirt as QB Khalil Priddie hit TE Randall Logan for an 89 yard TD strike.  Merritt added the extra point again and the Raiders pulled the score to 20-14.  Freshman Indian QB Antwan Buggs then led the SC attack 65 yards in 8 plays with T'michael Fedd capping off the drive with a 25 yard rush up the middle for another Indian score.  A successful PAT attempt and the Indians took a commanding 27-14 lead.  After making one first down in the next Raider series, the Indian defense took advantage of a Riverwood fumble and with 1:21 left in the first half took over at the Raider 42.  Four plays later, with 5 ticks left on the clock, Chris Brown took the ball in from the 10 yard line for his 4th TD of the game.  Another PAT through the goal posts and the Indians took a 34-14 lead into the locker room.
The second half began with the Indians receiving the ball but subsequently fumbling the ball to the host team.  With the Raiders seemingly poised to strike back, once again it was Chris Brown on the spot, picking off the Priddie pass and returning it to Riverwood 34 yard line.  Five plays later, Antwan Buggs called his own number punching it in from the one yard line bringing the score to 40-14 after a wide left PAT attempt.  At this point, both coaches were substituting freely and both sides consisted mostly of JV players sprinkled with some of the varsity squad.  Riverwood held the ball for 5 minutes before putting it on the carpet again and an Indian defender pouncing on it.  With just over 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Chris Brown took a pitch off the right side and glided in from 33 yards out for the final score of the scrimmage.  Crooms punched in his final PAT finishing 5 for 7 on extra points.  The ball went back and forth between the JV squads and with around 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter impending weather forced the referees to call the game.
Tallying up the final numbers the Indians piled up 294 yards rushing and 25 in the air.  Buggs completed both pass attempts with no interceptions.  The Indians made 18 first downs and lost 2 of 2 fumbles.  Riverwood had 207 total yards in a fairly balanced attack, 91 rushing and 116 passing.  Raider QB Priddie went 3 of 7 with one pick.  The Raiders lost 3 of 4 fumbles.  Individual leaders for Seminole County were Chris Brown (215 all-purpose yards, 5 TD's, one INT), Antwan Buggs (116 all-purpose yards, 1 TD, 1 sack), and Jaquan Johnson had 4 solo and 2 assited tackles defensively.
